How to walk with the Holy Spirit and live in Lagos
I live in Lagos Nigeria, one of the busiest cities in West Africa. Lagos is known for the hustle and bustle, its more like the whole of Nigeria converges on a daily basis to sell things to each other. One of the lessons I have learned as a Lagosian by residence is that you have to be fast, have the ability to switch mood(also known as changing here in Nigeria) and generally just feel the need to boast about your imaginary wealth to people who don’t care.
There are a lot of things to be excited about, and there are a lot of things to marvel about, I think these are the unique things that make up Lagos. I can only say a little about this beautiful city, but I assure you, if you love comedy, you would love to be in Lagos, but for this post you’re reading, its basically me trying to wrap my head around how you can maintain your sanity as a Spirit filled human and still live here like nothing happens.
I went to a restaurant that I usually eat at and I had to give some feedback to the manager. It was about food I had ordered the previous weekend. Let me tell you the story in full. I placed an order for fish pepper soup via the WhatsApp chat of the restaurant, and while the attendant was discussing with me, I decided to place a call to add some extra things to what I was ordering and explain elaborately what I wanted. Long story short, I got goat meat pepersoup instead of fish and when I called to inquire, the lady on the other end said to me “So what do we do about this error ma’am?” I was livid. What? After spending that money on delivery? How can you be asking me what we should do. Oh my, I couldn’t believe it. After several minutes of futile back and forth, I decided to let the matter be.
That is the abridged version of the story, and so I talked with the manager and the person in question tendered and apology and all swords were drawn back. Eventually, I found her at a corner of the room bitterly complaining about the fact that she got scolded by her supervisor. eventually, I had to find a way to apologize to her for giving my feedback. before I apologized, I kept on wondering why the heck she was upset, I mean, I gave my feedback so why? I got to realize that I shouldn’t leave there with someone upset with me and so I apologized to her. I had to. She smiled, I smiled, we all left happy.
This is Lagos, a city where the customer and the service provider are both right but ultimately, you might just have to let go of some things for peace to reign eventually. In all, I believe choosing peace above all else is worth everything.
